TRAVEL RECOMMENDATIONS
GENERAL
Travel to Long Beach can be accomplished through three local airports. Los Angeles International (LAX) is the largest of the three, but is located roughly 25 miles north of campus. The second largest is John Wayne international airport, located 19 miles to the south. The smallest of the three, but located only 4 miles from campus and within walking distance (although there is a free shuttle) is Long Beach Airport.
If possible, it is recommended to fly into Long Beach Airport, however service to and from this airport is limited. Check on the web for flights to Long Beach Airport. Please plan ahead and plan accordingly.
LONG BEACH AIRPORT
Free shuttle service is provided from the Long Beach Airport to the Marriott Hotel.
LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LAX)
If flights are not available from your area directly to Long Beach, or such flights are cost prohibitive, a flight to LAX may be arranged. Transportation from Los Angeles to Long Beach can be accomplished either by taxi or public transportation. To get to Long Beach from LAX on public transportation, you should follow the directions below. Although alternate routes are available, taking the train usually ensures a speedy arrival.
[From LAX: Estimated travel time, 1.5 hrs.]
- Board the G Shuttle toward Aviation station.
- At the Aviation station, purchase a Metro Day Pass, good for all metro, and some local transport until the end of the day. Take the Green-line headed east toward Norwalk/Blue line.
- Upon arrival at the Imperial/Wilmington station (transfer point to the Blue Line) exit the train and go down the stairs to the Blue Line. Board the blue line heading south toward Long Beach.
- Near the end of the line, get off at the "Transit Mall" station.
- From here, you will find the "Transit Mall" just around the corner.
- Board the Long Beach 111 bus which will take you to the Long Beach Marriott hotel at the Lakewood Blvd/Spring street stop. Be sure to let the driver know where you plan to exit.
JOHN WAYNE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The recommended mode of transportation from the John Wayne Airport is via Taxi.
